Engineered Oak Flooring:
For the eco-conscious
M&A Timbers’ engineered oak flooring serves as an alternative to solid wood flooring is a 220mm wide x 15mm thick composite board, that comprises marine ply board with the top 5mm in oak. Our board is supplied unvarnished and unsealed.
The motivation for engineered over solid wood flooring lies in making more environmentally conscious purchasing choices, with specific concern for the growth in deforestation. Oak is a slower growing wood, with demand outstripping supply, resulting in a net deforestation outcome. For this reason, engineered oak is kinder to the environment in that it relies on a lower extent of oak, essentially being a veneer product. As much as 75% less oak is used in an engineered alternative, but the same is true for all engineered wood alternatives, as up to 75% of the slower growing solid wood is replaced with a faster growing, hard alternative.
